MONDAYS WITH TARYN: DO YOU WANT TO BE SUCCESSFUL?

Well it's another Monday, back to the grind, the start of another long week. We all had our fun yesterday with it being Superbowl Sunday and all, but Monday always comes after Sunday and that means the fun is over, at least until Friday night.

This is what most people are thinking when Monday rolls around and the work week begins. They wake up Monday morning and dread the week to come, knowing how predictable their week will be because the routine never changes. Their routine may consist of work, gym, home to make dinner and watch some TV/do homework if you're in school or go to class. Or maybe your routine is work, pick up the kids from school, go home to make dinner for the family and clean the house then read a book before bed. But whatever your routine is, the first part of the day is usually "work" and the majority of you reading this probably hate your job, aren't doing anything that your college degree qualifies you for, and/or just work to "pay the bills."

It's sad to me that so many people with college degrees that start out with ambition end up in a slump and doing something they'll never be happy doing. I understand that bills need to be paid and some people often have no choice and take what they can get because they have a family to care for but I feel as though the young people, my generation, the young adults just coming out of college or grad school should be able to see that working in corporate America is not the only way to go. It's not the only way to make a 'fortune,' be successful, and be able to retire comfortably.
Where has the creativity gone in our society?! Where is the entrepreneurial spirit?? The only goal that so many people have nowadays is to retire! They can't wait for that day when they will be able to say.. "I paid my dues, hello Florida!" Any kind of different ideas are squashed by the people around us because we are told that "we will never make money," "you're crazy, why would you try something that's not guaranteed?" "Just get a normal job!" School, parents, family, friends, teach us that thinking out of the box is not the way to go....that there's too much risk involved... just follow the norm, do something secure and sure.

We Gilberts were always taught the opposite! Our parents always told us, figure out what you want to do and go for it! You live in America where anything is possible, where you can look forward to waking up every morning and make money doing what you love to do.
But whatever you choose, you have to have the ambition and work ethic to reach your goals, you have to be willing to work and never give up until you're where you want to be. It won't be easy but it'll be worth it in the end.

Our parents are behind us all the way and support everything that we do. We grew up bucking the system, learning that no one can put us in a box and tell us what we should and shouldn't do. God gave us free will and our future belongs to us and its our job to make it desirable, to make it a life worth living and not wake up everyday feeling like it was forced upon us and have no choice but to live it "this way," whatever way that may be.

That is the mentality we live by, we are living and working toward our dreams. We have huge goals!Goals that no one can really understand yet. We know that God's plan for us doesn't end with dreading waking up every morning. People always ask us what we do for a living, how we make money (because Sing For America money goes to charity,) and in telling them, they never really get it. They ask me in particular "why do you still live at home?" "Why don't you just get a normal job so you can move out and be independent?" "Doesn't your family annoy you?" "Ok, I'm not judging, you do your thing..." (but secretly they think I'm nuts). The list of questions goes on and all discussions like that end in me saying "Just wait! Soon you'll understand...." There are alot of reasons why I'm in the situation I'm in and most of it is because I have goals and those goals are the most important thing to me right now. Whatever I have to do to get there I will do, the little things that I may have to sacrifice are worth it if I'm reaching further toward the end product.

We have several things that we do aside from our production company, including working with another group of people who have the same mentality we do. When we joined their business, people thought we were absolutley crazy and had no support from friends or extended family but again, we bucked the system and are making it a success because nothing can stop people with neverending ambition! You can't stop people with the will to win, who want success more than they want to breathe, who will stop at nothing and not let those who ridicule and judge them discourage them from reaching their destination. (If you want in on this ask me about it - I'll be happy to help you reach your dreams, too!)

It's time to be those people!!! Don't just sit around, unhappy with your current situation in life. Do something about it! God has a plan for you!! The possibilities are endless and you don't need a degree or approval from anybody else. Don't live your life feeling like this is it... it doesn't matter what your situation is, you can always make it better! It's up to you!!!!

  1. The sadness is that the very box one is confined in is the place of limitation. The American culture is anti-individual. If everyone thinks the same, buys the same, wants the same it is easy to market.
With individuality, comes true creativity and expression of freedom. Keep thinking outside-of-the-box Gilbert family. Be sensitive to God's leading and His divine purpose for each of you. Success is a relative term.
